Rapper and businessman Jay Z was recently featured in a CBS Mornings special and he was asked a significant question regarding his masters. Jay Z was asked by interviewer Gayle King if he’d ever sell his masters. His response was affirmative and clear that he would not.

WHY ARTISTS ARE SELLING THEIR MASTERS
In a day in age where countless rappers and hip hop producers including, Dr. Dre, Irv Gotti, Nelly and many others are selling their masters entirely or a portion of their masters Jay Z say’s he’ll never sell his masters.
Let’s keep in mind that Jay Z is a billionaire so it does not seem like it would make much sense for him to sell his masters for monetary reasons as Irv Gotti stated in an interview that he sold his past (his masters) to fund his future.

WHY JAY Z WON’T SELL HIS MASTERS
Though Jay Z does understand why other musicians are selling their masters he won’t sell his masters because of the toil he went through to get his masters back from his former music label Def Jam. To the point of working at Def Jam as the President with the agreement that they would return his masters to him at the end of his tenure.
With that said he goes on to close the interview segment by saying who can sell his masters. He says that if his children at one point want to sell his masters that will be up to them.
