There certainly was a time and age in the not too distant past when most people in America worked for a company throughout their lifetime. Those times, for the most part, have come and gone. Nowadays many people are looking and exploring ways to become their own boss. Many people want to know how to boss up.
Becoming your own boss is something that has become part of the American Dream. People are no longer simply interested in earning money, but how they earn that money has become a crucial factor. That is, people want to make money on their own terms as their own boss.
THE BOSS MINDSET
First and foremost, bossing up starts as a mindset. Until one decides that they are going to boss up, they’ll never become a boss. You need to become a boss in your mind before it reflects in your pockets. That is, how much money you have.
The boss mindset initiates it all. It usually starts with a person deciding that they have had enough of being in the command of another person or corporation. Once they decide that they begin to articulate a plan as to how they will take control of their own time and life.
THE PLAN TO BOSS UP
To boss up you will need a plan. How to boss up doesn’t happen coincidentally. It takes deliberate and intentional effort. In the course of you becoming a boss you need to decide what are the necessary steps that you need to take to become your own boss.
For different people this plan may look differently. It depends on your situation in life. For example, if you’re single or don’t have children, your plan to boss up will likely look different from the person who is not single and does have children.
Therefore, it’s important to outline your boss up goals and how you plan on achieving them. For example, do you need to have a certain amount of money saved up before you commence on this journey? Do you need to go from full time to part time at your job? Will your spouse have to or be willing to carry a heavier load while you work on bossing up? Will you have to scale back on certain expenses (e.g., car, outings, gadgets, etc)?
Whatever the plan is that you decide on, don’t stop. Unfortunately, some people stop before they even start. They look at the sacrifices they’ll have to make and maybe some things they’ll have to give up and that I’ll be enough to scare them into not even trying.
Don’t let that happen to you. If you’re going to boss up, sacrifices are going to come with the process. However, the sacrifices aren’t forever. They are short term necessities to achieve long term satisfaction. Nothing worthy comes without sacrifice. Think about that as you embark on the journey to become a boss and remind yourself of that when things get tough.
