Birdman and Lil Wayne’s history goes back, way back. Lil Wayne, born on September 27th, 1982, met Birdman in 1991 when he was only 9 years old.
Lil Wayne’s biological father and mother divorced when he was only two years old. His father would then leave the family permanently.
LIL WAYNE ON WHO IS HIS REAL FATHER
Lil Wayne has said that he considers his deceased step father, Reginald “Rabbit” McDonald to be his real father. Reginald passed away after being shot 7 times in 1996. Lil Wayne was 14 years old when it happened. The Lil Wayne song Everything from his second album Lights Out is dedicated to Rabbit.
He also has a tattoo dedicated to Rabbit. It reads “In Memory Of Rabbit: It’s Up To Me.” It’s on his forearm. It’s one of the very first tattoos Lil Wayne got and he’s said it’s one of his favorites.
LIL WAYNE’S RELATIONSHIP WITH BIRDMAN
With no biological father and no step father, Birdman would then continue to mentor Lil Wayne and encouraged his love for Hip Hop and he became a father figure to him.
In 1995, True Story, the debut album by BG and Lil Wayne was released. Lil Wayne was 12 years old. And by the time 1997 came around, Lil Wayne at only 14 years old, became a member of the Hot Boys.
From then on the rest is, as they say, history. Lil Wayne would go on to sell over 120 million records worldwide.
