Cash Money Records: From Local To Global

Cash Money Records: From Local To Global

Cash Money Records: From local to global did not happen overnight. Although today Cash Money is arguably the greatest label of all time, it had humble beginnings.

Cash Money Records was founded in 1991 in New Orleans, Louisiana, by brothers Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams. The label’s humble beginnings were in their childhood home in the Magnolia Projects, where they started the label as a local operation.

THE FOUNDERS

Birdman and Slim, along with their friend Mannie Fresh, worked tirelessly to establish Cash Money Records as a significant player in the music industry. In the early 1990s, they faced numerous challenges and financial difficulties but managed to build a strong foundation for the label.

THE ARTISTS

In the early years, Cash Money Records focused on local New Orleans artists and released albums from acts such as UNLV, Pimp Daddy, Ms. Tee, and Kilo G. However, the label’s breakthrough came with the signing of the Hot Boys, a rap group consisting of Lil Wayne, Juvenile, B.G., and Turk.

Over the years, Cash Money Records grew in popularity and became a major force in the music industry. Their distinctive sound, often characterized by catchy beats and Southern influences, would go on to shape the direction of hip-hop music in the late 1990s until today.

Other notable artists associated with Cash Money Records include Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and Young Money Entertainment, that serves as a subsidiary of Cash Money Records.

Cash Money Records has had a notable run in the music industry for over 25 years. It is one of the most influential labels in hip hop and in the music industry overall with over 500 million records sold in the last two decades.

CONCLUSION

And as always we like to close with a saying, quote or adage and today’s is from Birdman on why he and his brother started Cash Money Records: I WAS HOPING IT WOULD GET US OUT OF THE PROJECTS AND INTO A POSITIVE WAY OF LIFE. AND WE WANTED TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE GET OUT THIS POVERTY…
